Penangites are cheap... err i mean thrifty..

As i turned my car into Tesco Extra's car park earlier this evening - it somehow seem weird that the car parks availability were in abundance. I was wondering if Tesco Extra was closed for stock check etc. It just seemed strange coz Penangites LOVE SHOPPING!!!! *even if its just for GROCERIES! * So what could've gone wrong? I dont recall Economy downturn affecting the spending power of Malaysians-- at least not the Penangites i know - And so i happily swerved into the first car park spot that caught my eye.

Some of the shelves were empty - i thought oh well, its already 930pm so perhaps they'll just replenish the stock tomorrow. After hubby and i got all the stuff we wanted, i finally realized why there weren't many people in Tesco Extra today! its MONDAY!!!! In line with the Penangstate government's campaign to reduce usage of plastic - each plastic bag will be charged at 20 cents each! Darn~~ How could i have forgotten!?!?!?! No wonder~ Penangites wanted to save $ ( instead of saving EARTH!! ) I looked into my shopping cart and told hubby, darn, let's buy groceries another day coz i dont wanna pay for plastic bags!! NOoooo!!! Why would i when i get them for free if i shop on any other 6 days of the week!!! oh WHY oh WHY did i have to go grocery shopping on a Monday evening?? *sigh* Hubby said - You!! I thought you said u like to be environmental friendly? just buy a reusable bag!!! yes i Ought to be ashamed of myself!!

After the gentle reminder , i picked up the 99 sen Tesco reusable plastic bag! ( coz that's the cheapest reusable bag ) BUT - In case u didnt know, it comes with a LIFETIME REPLACEMENT GUARANTEE!!! =D If its broken/ torn - simply bring it back to the customer service counter and get it replaced!! GREAT DEAL RIGHt??? Due to the amount of groceries that we bought - 1 bag was not enough. So i picked up another one that the cashier recommended to me. A Tesco designer gunny bag with lady birds on the side = its at RM6.99 and its also coming with a lifetime replacement guarantee, plus it looks cute too!! I can use it for other stuff and its not Plastic!!! =D Hubby said we need more bags and i say - nah just fit them all in- it Comes with LIFETIME GUARANTEE!!! If it breaks , we get free replacement anyway!!! KAKAKAKKAAK Yes, im cheap!

Pls support 3Rs - Reuse, Recycle and Reduce! Bring your own shopping bag the next time you're out shopping! Thats what i'll do from today onwards *hopefully*

X'mas Eve

Instead of celebrating X'mas Eve in a posh restaurant like we've done in the past, i decided at around 2 pm that we're gonna dine-in! I couldnt believe it - the hypermarket has RUN OUT OF mozarella cheese and whipped cream! There goes my initial idea for main dish and dessert.. *complaints*

As soon as i got home - i worked on it non stop like a 8 handed Octopus.

The Result were as follows :

A pleasing table setting to set off the X'mas eve dinner mood - Paper napkin and placemat helps!

Cooking Bugs ( part 2 )

There is a famous chinese saying that goes " The way to a man's heart is thru his stomach" So today, I asked Hubby if he had any cravings today and i'll try to fulfil it .Hubby said " Couscous". My heart sinked! My last attempt in preparing couscous was a failed project!! * disheartened* The image is still CRYSTAL CLEAR in my head - is that couscous?? However since he's giving me another chance to redeem myself - i'm determined to make my couscous project a success.

I told hubby i'll google for some nice couscous recipe before i start my little project in the kitchen today. Less than 5 minutes of googling and speed reading thru couscous recipes - i gave up~ Perhaps Hubby is right? i do have ADD " attention deficit disorder"? Whateva! I don't wanna head out for grocery shopping in search of ingredients that sound alien to me. Gonna stick to my original plan and just improvise with whatever ingredients i have at home. Off i started digging into my fridge cum freezer and kitchen cabinet in search of yet-to-expire ingredients, hehe. These are what I found

And so i started buzzing around the kitchen. I decided to try and make a healthy version of couscous. With some chicken stock, mini tangerines ( to substitute lemon ) , finely chopped red and yellow capsicum and dills, black pitted olives, Tadaa --> i present you my version of mediterranean couscous served with healthy grilled black pepper chicken breast. =)

I call this "When East meets West" What's eastern about it? Well, uhm - the china mini tangerines and the red chilly 'yong tau fu" hehe =D After presenting it to Hubby, i sat next to him to watch his facial expression as he chows it down.
It annoyed him , haha and he told me to stop watching him so that he can enjoy "HIS" food in peace. Oh well, from the satisfied look he had as he enjoys the couscous, i believe that i've met my objective of the day =)

Hubby made me a cup of white coffee to reward me soon after and he helped me to clean up the kitchen =)

I'm a satisfied woman..for now =)

Cooking Bugs

With the mushrooming of food bloggers all over the Internet as well as my growing interest in reading them * its almost an addiction these days* , i finally decided that its time that i join the blogger community as well. =) yay!

The cooking bugs has managed to conquer me in less than 48 hours after my week long leave kicked off.

I was invited to a pre- x'mas dinner yesterday. With the economy recession around the corner, i decided that i'll whip up something with the ingredients i have in the kitchen. Managed to get Hubby to grab me some onions and garlic from the sundry store and with the absolutely cheezy mozarella cheese and 2 healthy cans of tuna, i decided to make Baked Potato with Mayo Tuna.

Maybe i was just having one of those moments where u just HAFTA make a desperate attempt to impress ?Sis kept saying, " Hmpf! i wanna eat!!! " I said, " follow me to the party?" , She said "Nope", bring a slice home for me! Yah right!

With some left over tuna, i decided that i'll make something for hubby and sis who's not joining me at the party - Cheezy Tuna on High baked Water biscuit! As i prepared, sis kept saying that she doesnt like cookies nor biscuits, and nothing can deviate her attention away from the potato baked tuna.. guess what?? when it was ready, she was hot on her heels and very obliging when i asked to borrow her camera to capture my proud moments.

There were 9 pieces, before i could finish showering so i can have a pic of me holding the tray of canapes for the lens, guess who stole a bite from the first piece?? HUBBY!!! i SULKED when i saw him in action!Hubby, with a mischievous grin said, " i can put it back on the tray so u can snap the photo?" and Yes, the photo turned out well, it looked ARTISTIC to me even to have one bitten piece at the corner *Grins*

And so the healthy snacks i made were gobbled up by Hubby , Sis and Chloe ( she only managed to have one! ) even before i head out the door to the Xmas Party with my Baked Potato Mayo tuna.

Oh yeah, did i mention?? i managed to whip up the 2 dishes above in less than 1 hour - so proud of myself ! teehee! Anyway all that happened last night.
